This is my 1962 Dodge Lancer which I purchased with the Lord's help for $50.00 from R. Dayle Johnson in January, 1972. I was so broke,
that I had to borrow the money from my folks. It was a tough time in my life.
I managed to get them paid back before I went to Army Basic training in March of 1972. I left the car for my little brother to drive
while I was at Fort Knox. When I came home in July, it had a bad piston. I removed the engine and with Hilding "Andy" Anderson's help, I rebuilt the engine and put it all back
together.
I loved this car. It had push-buttons on the dash for the transmission. It was a pinkish in color and was really ugly. It got 20 miles
per gallon and would push the speedometer, if you waited long enough, to just under 105 miles per hour. Mine had a 225 cubic inch, cast iron, Slant Six engine.
The front bench seat wasn't in very good shape so I bought a couple of red mustang bucket seats from Paul Garceau for $ 5.00 each. I sort
of mounted them on some iron bars and bolted them into the car. The floor board wasn't level so I had to mickey mouse the job and only one side of each seat was bolted down. Hey, I
was just a dumb kid. They stayed in place as long as you buckled up your seat belt.
I used this car for going places, hunting coyotes, climbing hills out in the Potholes area, fishing and hauling motorcycle parts and tool
boxes. Carol thought it was so ugly that she even agreed to go out with me. If I would have had a nice car I think she would have refused. As the prettiest girl in town, she had
lots of offers from other fellows, but I was the only one with a pink 1962 Dodge Lancer.
So fellows, my conclusion is this, if you want to marry the girl of your dreams buy a pink 1962 Dodge Lancer. It worked for me. Carol and
I have been married for 32 years now.
